You Comment I Follow - Thanks For Your Comments

October 17, 2007

You Comment I Follow

I have been getting some really good comments on recent posts, and it is heartening to see how these comments actually add new perspectives and value to the original posts. It is my belief that an all rounded perspective which includes diverse opinions and takes on a single discussion provides the best benefits to my readers. This is especially true for the domain of Personal Development, where quotations, success stories or testimonies from a good commenter provides the affirmation and motivations for other readers.

Such interactions not only adds value to my readers, but unknown to many of you, it adds a whole lot to my personal development as well. Some of your comments hit me like a rock, “Why didn’t I think of that?” or “Why didn’t I see it that way?” Through your valuable comments, it adds to my experiences into becoming a more all-rounded and open-minded person; that in return will come back to the community through better future articles.

YOU COMMENT I FOLLOW

As such, to thank you for your time and effort to read my articles and to leave valuable comments for other readers, I have decided to join the ‘You Comment I Follow‘ movement. The basic idea behind this is to reward commenter by adding a link count to commenter’s site. Such counts are important for Google Page Ranks, and Social Bookmarking sites like Technorati. There are already many great articles talking about this movement, its purpose and how it’s done. You can check out the following links for an idea:

TOP COMMENTORS

Some of you may also notice that I have added the Top Commentor plugin to the sidebar. This plug-in will highlight everyone who is engaging in conversations here at ‘A Long Long Road’. This is another measure to thank and encourage readers to join into the conversation and discussion.

I have not decided on how often the top commenter count will reset, so any suggestion from you will be appreciated ;-)

COMMENT POLICY

A common concern or side-effect with the above measures is comment spams; which means people making comments on this blog not for the sake of engaging into a constructive conversation, but simply to accumulate links back to their blogs. Through my research, there have been mixed feedbacks and reactions to comment spams. For myself, I believe the potential benefits far outweigh the potential side effects; as such, I am going to give this a try.

In any case, a simple comment policy should help here:

All GENUINE comments are welcomed and encouraged here at “A Long Long Road”.

  • We value your genuine opinions, suggestions, quotations, testimonies, perspectives etc… even if these may differ from my own.
  • We look forward to your genuine interaction, conversation, encouragement that adds perspectives and value to readers.

I reserve the rights to:

  • Remove ’spammy’ comments
  • Remove ’spammy’ URLs

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS

The purpose of this blog is to contribute to the community via personal development content, and your comments help in this endeavor. It’s indeed a win-win for both, as good constructive comments also promote your personal branding, raise awareness of your blog, and contribute to the readers here.

Please keep the constructive interactions coming in; together, let us empower, encourage, motivate, alleviate and make this better!

Have a great day!

Thank you for using the top commentator plugin. Please feel free to contact me at any time if there is an issue with it. I hope that it encourages more legitimate and thoughtful comments on your blog as that was the intention when it was created.

Commenting is what makes blogging so great. More people should actively get out there and comment on sites and posts. Keep up the good work

Hi Steve,

Indeed, this is exactly what I have learned recently and hence this move. I am also starting to engage other bloggers via commenting. The interactions are great.

Thanks for your support and encouraging words!

Hi there, this is a good way of networking and sharing ideas that I fully support.

I just a note to let you know that, I’ve added you to my list of tags to join in Alex Shalman’s “Caring Compassion Charity”. The idea is for you to write about something you’re passionate about. You would link to me and I would link back to the originator. It’s a good way to build networking. You can find my article post here: http://thinksimplenow.com/happiness/the-causes-that-make-my-heart-sing/

Love & Gratitude,
Tina

My blog dofollow as well but I didn’t join this campaign since I am using the other plugin. Having people to comment on your posts in really encouraging.

Comments can act as a resource or an inspiration of what to blog about and a measurement that what our readers really like.

Hi Wayne, thanks for the affirmation and the tips.

To me, it is really encouraging to see comments on my blog. Well, at least it gives me the feeling that someone is reading it, and that it’s strikes a chord with some readers.

:)

How frequent you reset your Top Commentators plugin depends on how you want to reward your readers. For example, if you wish to reward only your very loyal fans, you may set it to reset every year (gulps). But if you are like me, you want to give everybody some chance to be on your wall of fame, you may set it to reset every week :)

Hi Pelf,

Nice to see you here :)

Anyway thanks for the tips. Well, one year seems quite long, but one week seems too short for me. So maybe let me try out with one month first and see how’s the feedback.

I follow comments at my personal blog too although I haven’t put up a button about it yet. I have put the button on other of my blogs and I have seen the comments increase as a result so it definitely does make a difference.

I think commenting is what makes all blogs so great! It’s really all about the community a blog creates, we share as much as we can with each other :)

DOFollow blogs are getting harder and harder to find these days - most folks just aren’t as generous as that anymore. Congrats on joining the movement, Id love to see it pick up steam again.

@Betta Fish: yes, I agree. Some comments from my readers have been particularly helpful in giving the readers more perspectives. I also feel that such exchanges helps us to make more friends. :)

@Llama Money: Haha! Is it true that people are not so generous anymore? I certainly hope everyone be more generous, esp during this festive season. Giving is receiving.

@Bollywood-Hollywood: Interesting name. Why this name?

Yes Joliber,

I think you have spoke words that rings with my heart. Most readers don’t bother to comment, for various reasons. It’s true.

So if someone bothers to comment, it does mean a lot of how the message has struck a chord with him/her. It’s does mean a lot to me. Thank for seeing this, and for commenting ;-)

Hope to see you around A Long Long Road more often.

I agree that giving some link love is good for your commentators if they are bloggers themselves too

I can’t imagine my blog without the support from them, they are just amazing people who will always drop a comment on my posts. Even my real life friends do not do that lol

Those Stupid SpamBots ruined it for all of us didn’t they? Thanks for the information that I am only just learning. The “You Follow” works because if we have any control, we can always delete the comments we don’t like anyway!
